Area Manager, Training/Employee Relations

Reports to: Director, Human Resource
Status: Fulltime Exempt

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of work related experience in a Human Resources roles with a emphasis on training and employee relations
  • 2 years experience directly supervising employees
  • High School Diploma, some college preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all level within the organization
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods on a regular basis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows based operating systems and software including Word, Excel and Power Point

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops and/or implements a variety of par -wide training programs for all levels of personnel with emphasis on seasonal employees and entry level management positions, ensuring all training is in compliance with Company policies and goals and is properly documented. This includes Company Orientation, Divisional Orientations, on the job training, Fundamentals of Leadership training, etc.
  • Coordinates, implements and administers various employee programs in order to improve employee motivation and recognition, and reduce turnover including: service awards, employee parties, Cornerstone pin program, Company newsletter, etc.
  • Schedules, manages and directs all wardrobe and training personnel. Monitor employee performance utilizing all appropriate means including hiring, training, coaching, motivation, coaching, counseling, discipline and performance appraisals to achieve optimum job performance, as outlined in Great America policies and procedures.
  • Directs the day to day operation of the Wardrobe department including the issuing and return of employee uniforms throughout the season; ascertaining, ordering and maintaining proper inventory levels of all uniforms items; meets with vendors to ensure competitive pricing, theming and consistency while maintaining quality in construction of garments.
  • Assists with a variety of employee relations activities including but not limited to investigating and responding to employee complaints, taking appropriate corrective actions; providing direction to management and employees regarding the interpretation and proper application of Company policies and procedures; and ensure compliance with all areas of State and Federal labor laws.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
  • Assists with budget development, tracking and adherence for all assigned activities.

Landscape Foreperson

Great America has an opening in its FMC Admin Division for Landscape Foreperson. This position will report to the Manager of Maintenance.

Job Functions Summary:

Overall direction and leadership of the Landscape section and assist in the installation and maintenance of the landscape.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in Landscape maintenance to include irrigation, pest control, arbor care, turf, ornamental horticulture or degree in horticulture or related field.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience to include budgeting, scheduling and managing projects from conception through
  • completion.
  • Good communication (written, verbal and listening) skills, especially for dealing with the public and associates.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical and planning skills.
  • Basic computer skills (spreadsheet, word processing, data base). Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel a plus.
  • Theme park or Corporate experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards/requirements.
  • Reading and interpreting blue prints and schematics.
  • Math aptitude to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
  • Attention to detail.
  • NCDEA certification to apply pesticides or obtain certification within 1 year of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Landscape maintenance plans and work schedules that clearly define the goals and strategies needed to reach the objectives for California’s Great America and the Maintenance Department.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the landscape maintenance associates by implementing programs, encouraging creativity and inspiring associates to reach the next level in their professional career.
  • Select, train, direct, schedule, evaluate and discipline staff and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Establish and maintain professional, trained and motivated staff through effective implementation of performance and development programs. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Respond to and take appropriate action to resolve concerns and complaints from guests and associates.
  • Provide team with necessary information and tools to effectively perform their duties.
  • Interface with California’s Great America staff in developing sound landscape strategies that work toward achieving overall goals.
  • Ensure that maintenance policies and procedures are implemented, updated and followed.
  • Maintain liaison with park departments to ensure that landscape concerns are identified, solutions are coordinated and followed up on.
  • Monitor activities to eliminate where accidents could occur, halting any operation or activity that constitutes an imminent hazard to associates, guests or equipment.
  • Prepare accurate cost analysis of projects and forecast accurate project completion dates.
  • Gather, enter and collate necessary data for submission of required reports, both internal and external, in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings, make presentations to staff and others.
  • Ability to anticipate, prepare and plan ahead.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate quality assurance measures and ensure appropriate follow up.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in speaking, writing and listening to management, associates and customers.
  • Speak clearly and concisely with organized thought processes.
  • Installs (placement, position, connect, inspect, test) landscape components according to manufacturer's and California’s Great America standards.
  • Performs pre operation check out on equipment daily per California’s Great America standards and completes required documentation.
  • Performs preventative maintenance (planned internal inspections) on equipment and completes required documentation and check out file records. 
  • Answers trouble calls during operation. 
  • Keeps work areas clean and organized. 
  • Keep abreast of current trends and practices in field of expertise.  
  • Makes recommendations based on new development/trends. 
  • Moves throughout entire area of responsibility regularly to maintain awareness of total operation. 
  • Assist in preparing the operation plan and budget.
  • Order parts and supplies.
  • Monitor and take action to ensure operation remains within guidelines concerning budget. 
  • Follow established accounting procedures for documentation of purchases and expenses. 
  • Maintain high degree of confidentiality of paperwork and information in maintenance.  
  • Coordinate and implement special maintenance programs as assigned. 
  • Follows proper storage requirements for equipment and supplies. 
  • Provides guest service according to Cedar Fair standards when serving the guest or working with subordinates, including initiating guest interactions, answering questions and giving directions. 
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work area and performs all duties in compliance with Cedar Fair Safety guidelines and requirements and reports all unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision.

Manager of Accounting

California's Great America has an opening in its Finance Division for Manager of Accounting. This position will report to the Director of Finance.

JOB FUNCTIONS SUMMARY:
Performs weekly/monthly close including preparing journal entries, reconciling all Bank accounts, BS accounts and updating schedules. Uploads budget weekly/monthly. Performs Tax Reporting: Tax Returns, Sales Tax Payments, Business Tax, Tourism Tax. Assists Director with annual budget. Prepares audit schedules for YE. Ensures prepaid & amortization schedules are maintained accurately. Supervises Accounting functions.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Bachelor's Degree (4 year College or University)
  • 2 - 4 Years Related Experience Accounting / Finance
  • Previous experience supervising team helpful
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Word, and ERP systems.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for oversight and proper controls over Year-end inventory process. Works with Merchandise team to establish  timing and audits ensuring accurate inventory and cost of sales adjustment.
  • Assists Director of Finance with Company wide Budgeting process. Prepares Quarter-end Year-end schedules as requested by Corporate
  • Assists with preparing tax schedules such as tax returns and tax payments, business tax and tourism tax. Answers questions from Internal Auditors and External Auditors. Prepares YE Audit Schedules as requested by Director, Corporate and Auditors.
  • Supervises staff accountant; specialist, accounts payable; and specialist payroll/accounts receivable.
  • Ensures financial statements are prepared timely and accurately in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepares weekly/monthly Journal Entries.
  • Works closely with other accounting staff and corporate to ensure payments and accruals amounts are accurate in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of all bank accounts.
  • Responsible for updating schedules for deferred revenue, royalties, prepaids, accruals, worker's comp, and public liability insurance.
  • Generates general ledger detail reports for the directors.
  • Updates weekly/month actual numbers to budget system.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.

Sales Representative

Sales Representative full-time position including a competitive benefits package is available in the Group Sales Department. Under occasional supervision, generates attendance and revenue goals by developing and managing B2B sales accounts within the assigned territory of East Bay. Provides professional, timely customer service while promoting a variety of park entertainment opportunities, including company picnics, family day programs and Good-Any-Day discount ticket programs. Tracks, identifies and analyzes sales trends and competition. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Group Sales Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops sales action plan for each market segment within assigned territory to build and enhance new and existing accounts.
  • Recommends, requests and coordinates internal corporate client event publicity to increase account activity.
  • Plans and gives presentations to corporate committees, civic/community organizations, etc.; attends and participates in industry trade shows to generate sales business.
  • Identifies potential new customers; initiates sales calls; conducts tours of Park facilities and invites clients/potential clients to sales events as appropriate; prepares and presents customized proposals.
  • Books group outings and company picnics; sells tickets. Prepares contracts.
  • Attends and assists with the oversight of picnics / corporate events as appropriate. Including working weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Establishes business relationships with all clients and potential clients.
  • Manages sales accounts within assigned territory through service calls, face-to-face follow-up visits and telephone/written communications.
  • Responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints regarding groups sales from customers and potential customers.
  • Assists in maintaining up-to-date and accurate client account information through CRM.
  • Receives and reviews various records and reports including billing invoices, group sales analyses, etc.
  • Prepares and/or processes business status reports, group sales analyses, operations memos, expense reports, mileage log, various other reports, records, forms, memos and correspondence.
  • Refers to policy and procedure manuals, trade publications, directories, news / business publications, computer manual, pricing sheet, training materials, etc.
  • Operates a vehicle, Cushman cart, and a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, fax machine, copier, calculator, telephone, pager, two-way radio.
  • Uses clerical and computer supplies.
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other park managers, co-workers, other Park employees, clients / potential clients, vendors, and the general public.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree, preferably in Marketing, Hospitality, or Business Management
  • Possess a minimum of 1-3 years experience in B2B sales with a proven track record. Theme Park Industry, Entertainment, Hospitality, Sports, and/or Media sales experience a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Possess professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be willing and able to travel within the assigned territory.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Security Manager

This job is responsible for managing the security and well-being of our park guests and its employees. This job must have general knowledge of the California Penal Code. This position is also responsible for the protection of the company's assets. This is achieved through both physical and video surveillance, documentation, and data analysis. This position is also responsible for the safety of our park guests and its employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Security

  • Manage the daily operation of the Security Department.
  • Manage the performance of the supervision staff.
  • Conduct Sexual Harassment, Work Place Violence, Under the Influence, and other interviews/investigations that violate California's Great America's Rules of Conduct as required.
  • Perform operational duties of staff as business needs dictate.
  • Review, update and revise policies and procedures of department.
  • Ensure staff compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws
  • Approve the arrest of individuals committing crimes on company property staying within approved guidelines
  • Maintain appropriate working relationships with all local law enforcement agencies.
  • Attend external meeting as needed. • Address employee issues relating to Security matters.
  • Complete department schedules and yearly budgets to ensure proper coverage is maintained throughout the year.
  • Develop and maintain department incentive program.
  • Manage employee performance utilizing all appropriate means including training, coaching, counseling and corrective actions as outlined in California's Great America's policies and procedures.
  • Develop through performance management, the Area Manager, the Supervisors and Shift Leads in the Security department.
  • Provide excellent guest service to our park guests.
  • Respond to, resolve and report on the outcome of guest concerns by representing the Company in a professional manner.

Loss Prevention

  • Monitor the daily operation of the Loss Prevention Department.
  • Review investigations and provide direction for investigations.
  • Complete background checks for West Coast Operations.
  • Complete department schedules and yearly budgets to ensure proper coverage is maintained throughout the year.
  • Review, update, and revise policies and procedures of department.
  • Assist with shoplift and trespass detentions.
  • Address employee and guest issues relating to Loss Prevention.
  • Act as primary contact for Civil Demand and Collection attorneys.
  • Complete Security/Loss Prevention interviews with employees and guests as required.
  • Write Security/Loss Prevention reports as required.
  • Ensure all reports are completed in a timely fashion and contain all pertinent information.
  • Review status of restitution monies being collected.
  • Ensure appropriate steps are being followed when payments are not being made according to restitution agreement.
  • Provide Loss Prevention insight to park management and supervision through training classes.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill shifts as the “Operations Manager” as needed.
  • Fulfill shifts as the “Executive on Duty” as needed.
  • Fulfill shifts as the “Safety Duty Manager”.
  • Attend Wicklander-Zulawski and Associates Interview and Interrogation Techniques Course.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as required to achieve position accountabilities and division goals.
  • Present Work Place Violence and Loss Prevention classes to all levels of park Management and Supervision as scheduled.

Qualifications:

Education

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Four year college degree or equivalent job experience required

Job Related Experience

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in related fields (Law Enforcement, Private Security, Retail Loss Prevention)
  • Minimum of 3 years supervising employees
  • Good working knowledge of the Security and park operations required
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Windows, Word and Excel preferred

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Ability to pass a mandatory drug test and background check
  • Ability to pass a DMV check and obtain a California's Great America Public Highway License
  • Ability to meet California's Great America costuming and grooming standards
