Security Manager

This job is responsible for managing the security and well-being of our park guests and its employees. This job must have general knowledge of the California Penal Code. This position is also responsible for the protection of the company's assets. This is achieved through both physical and video surveillance, documentation, and data analysis. This position is also responsible for the safety of our park guests and its employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage the daily operation of the Security Department.
  • Manage the performance of the supervision staff.
  • Conduct Sexual Harassment, Work Place Violence, Under the Influence, and other interviews/investigations that violate California's Great America's Rules of Conduct as required.
  • Perform operational duties of staff as business needs dictate.
  • Review, update and revise policies and procedures of department.
  • Ensure staff compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws
  • Approve the arrest of individuals committing crimes on company property staying within approved guidelines
  • Maintain appropriate working relationships with all local law enforcement agencies.
  • Attend external meeting as needed. • Address employee issues relating to Security matters.
  • Complete department schedules and yearly budgets to ensure proper coverage is maintained throughout the year.
  • Develop and maintain department incentive program.
  • Manage employee performance utilizing all appropriate means including training, coaching, counseling and corrective actions as outlined in California's Great America's policies and procedures.
  • Develop through performance management, the Area Manager, the Supervisors and Shift Leads in the Security department.
  • Provide excellent guest service to our park guests.
  • Respond to, resolve and report on the outcome of guest concerns by representing the Company in a professional manner.

Loss Prevention

  • Monitor the daily operation of the Loss Prevention Department.
  • Review investigations and provide direction for investigations.
  • Complete background checks for West Coast Operations.
  • Complete department schedules and yearly budgets to ensure proper coverage is maintained throughout the year.
  • Review, update, and revise policies and procedures of department.
  • Assist with shoplift and trespass detentions.
  • Address employee and guest issues relating to Loss Prevention.
  • Act as primary contact for Civil Demand and Collection attorneys.
  • Complete Security/Loss Prevention interviews with employees and guests as required.
  • Write Security/Loss Prevention reports as required.
  • Ensure all reports are completed in a timely fashion and contain all pertinent information.
  • Review status of restitution monies being collected.
  • Ensure appropriate steps are being followed when payments are not being made according to restitution agreement.
  • Provide Loss Prevention insight to park management and supervision through training classes.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill shifts as the “Operations Manager” as needed.
  • Fulfill shifts as the “Executive on Duty” as needed.
  • Fulfill shifts as the “Safety Duty Manager”.
  • Attend Wicklander-Zulawski and Associates Interview and Interrogation Techniques Course.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as required to achieve position accountabilities and division goals.
  • Present Work Place Violence and Loss Prevention classes to all levels of park Management and Supervision as scheduled.



  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Four year college degree or equivalent job experience required

Job Related Experience

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in related fields (Law Enforcement, Private Security, Retail Loss Prevention)
  • Minimum of 3 years supervising employees
  • Good working knowledge of the Security and park operations required
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Windows, Word and Excel preferred

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Ability to pass a mandatory drug test and background check
  • Ability to pass a DMV check and obtain a California's Great America Public Highway License
  • Ability to meet California's Great America costuming and grooming standards
  • Ability to meet scheduling availability requirements, including availability during nights, weekends, and Holidays
  • Available to Security and Loss Prevention Departments during all hours
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the local law and fire agencies
  • Ability to diffuse a difficult situation through effective communication
  • Ability to work with employees, park management, and guests in a positive and professional manner
  • Ability to handle multiple job demands in a professional and productive manner under time constraints and quality demands
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time; up to three (3) hours without a break.
  • Ability to work with little or no direct supervision
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to maintain composure during high pressure situations
  • Ability to use a variety of small office machines, including a personal computer
  • Ability to work outdoors, with continual exposure to a variety of weather conditions including rain and afternoon sun

Ride Mechanic

Reports to: Ride Mechanic Foreperson
Status: Fulltime Exempt

Under occasional supervision, inspects, maintains and repairs rides and equipment as assigned. Performs related duties as required. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Inspects, maintains and repairs rides and equipment as assigned.
  • Lubricates rides and equipment.
  • Designs and fabricates parts; rebuilds components.
  • Cleans mechanical parts as needed.
  • Responds to work orders and trouble calls in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date maintenance records; prepares maintenance reports as required.
  • Reviews technical documents, blueprints, schematics, catalogs, etc., as needed to support ride maintenance, repair and rehabilitation work.
  • Works with other departments on repairs and maintenance projects as appropriate.
  • Offers training and assistance to co-workers as necessary.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of all maintenance problems or areas of concern.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies, parts and materials.
  • Maintains assigned equipment in a safe and proper working condition; maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Performs all work in accordance with department policies and procedures, regulations, plans and specifications, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints from employees and guests regarding ride safety and maintenance.

Additional Job Functions

  • Operates rides as necessary.
  • May perform minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical work as required.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Requires a vocational diploma in mechanical / industrial maintenance supplemented by three to five years of experience in mechanical maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires forklift and man lift certifications.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid California Driver's License

Specialist Legal Compliance

California’s Great America has an opening in Santa Clara, California for the position of Specialist Legal Compliance. This full time position will report to the Director of Human Resources.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for conducting audits of break and meal period cards to ensure they are complete, accurate and in compliance with company policies, state and federal laws and communicates department status to managers on an on-going basis. Responsible for preparing reports to be sent and reviewed by corporate. This position is also responsible for conducting audits on the TAS Time Keeping System to ensure deleted punches and adjustments are authorized by associates and management.

  • Demonstrated experience with various computer programs and reporting packages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize all break and meal period time sheets for long term storage.
  • Conduct field audits of associates at on and off site locations to ensure compliance with break and meal period policies and laws. Field audits also include auditing department break schedules to ensure employees are receiving required meal and rest periods.
  • Conducts audits on the TAS Time Keeping System to ensure deleted punches and adjustments are authorized by the employee and management.
  • Conducts minor audits to ensure minors are working within child and labor laws.
  • Ensure penalty pay for break and meal period violations is paid out on a timely basis in compliance with state laws.
  • Conduct audits of break and meal period cards to ensure they are complete, accurate and incompliance with Company policy, state and federal laws, and verifying that all break cards are accounted for.
  • Conducts training classes for the company time keeping system.
  • Suggest procedural changes and mitigating measures as issues are identified to ensure compliance with Company policies and state and federal laws and assisting with the implementation of approved procedures, procedural changes and mitigating measures.
  • Communicate department status to managers by preparing written audit results on an on-going basis, including operational issues, employee concerns, and non-compliance for distribution and follow-up.
  • Provides guest service according to Cedar Fair standards when serving the guest or working with subordinates, including initiating guest interactions, answering questions and giving directions.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety in assigned work area and performs all duties in compliance
  • with Cedar Fair Safety guidelines and requirements and reports all unsafe or unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Meets scheduling availability requirements, including nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • Meets Cedar Fair's attendance requirements as outlined in Cedar Fair's attendance policies.
  • Adheres to Cedar Fair's Rules of Conduct including specific costuming and grooming standards as outlined in Employee Guidelines and other park/division specific policies and procedures.

Manager of Accounting

California's Great America has an opening in its Finance Division for Manager of Accounting. This position will report to the Director of Finance.

Performs weekly/monthly close including preparing journal entries, reconciling all Bank accounts, BS accounts and updating schedules. Uploads budget weekly/monthly. Performs Tax Reporting: Tax Returns, Sales Tax Payments, Business Tax, Tourism Tax. Assists Director with annual budget. Prepares audit schedules for YE. Ensures prepaid & amortization schedules are maintained accurately. Supervises Accounting functions.


  • Bachelor's Degree (4 year College or University)
  • 2 - 4 Years Related Experience Accounting / Finance
  • Previous experience supervising team helpful
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Word, and ERP systems.
  • Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.

  • Responsible for oversight and proper controls over Year-end inventory process. Works with Merchandise team to establish  timing and audits ensuring accurate inventory and cost of sales adjustment.
  • Assists Director of Finance with Company wide Budgeting process. Prepares Quarter-end Year-end schedules as requested by Corporate
  • Assists with preparing tax schedules such as tax returns and tax payments, business tax and tourism tax. Answers questions from Internal Auditors and External Auditors. Prepares YE Audit Schedules as requested by Director, Corporate and Auditors.
  • Supervises staff accountant; specialist, accounts payable; and specialist payroll/accounts receivable.
  • Ensures financial statements are prepared timely and accurately in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepares weekly/monthly Journal Entries.
  • Works closely with other accounting staff and corporate to ensure payments and accruals amounts are accurate in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
  • Responsible for reconciliation of all bank accounts.
  • Responsible for updating schedules for deferred revenue, royalties, prepaids, accruals, worker's comp, and public liability insurance.
  • Generates general ledger detail reports for the directors.
  • Updates weekly/month actual numbers to budget system.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
