Even though the big debut of our brand-new waterpark, South Bay Shores, has been officially been moved to 2021, there is still a jaw-dropping amount of transformation happening at the construction site. It’s been a little bit since we’ve shown off the progress at our new waterpark, so let’s take a peek around the area to see what’s been taking place!

New South Bay Shores Waterpark Coming 2021

The new entry portal has been framed out and will soon receive even more detail and theming. If you ever visited Boomerang Bay waterpark, this sign stands about where the old Boomerang Bay sign was—but this one is about five times bigger! It’ll make quite a statement as guests walk into South Bay Shores next season.

Family-Friendly Aquatic Attractions

The first area guests will encounter as they dip their toes into South Bay Shores is designed specifically for families with little ones. The existing sprayground and splash fortress attractions are looking brighter than ever with new coats of paint, and lots of new theming details will be added over the coming months. Out with the Australian outback and in with the NorCal coast!

Parents will love all the new shade areas we’re adding around Otter Trotter and Pup’s Pier. The area looks empty today, but it will be covered with huge shade sails and lounge chairs by next summer.

Big Waterslides Deliver Big Thrills

The fiberglass tubes of the brand-new Pacific Surge waterslides have all been installed, and they look MASSIVE in person! The cluster of four highest slides at Pacific Surge, dubbed Shark Reef Plunge, will have riders stand atop a trap door that flings open—sending you and three friends racing on a near-vertical drop into speedy twists and turns. The other two tube slides, called Barracuda and Feeding Frenzy, will send riders splashing through tight turns and down steep drops.

Kid-Sized Waterslides

Also brand new for 2021 is the Tide Pool lagoon. Our crews have finished installing most of the eight miniature slides that line the back of this zero-depth pool. The shores of the Tide Pool will also have tons of new shaded areas for parents to chill while their little tadpoles splash away.

Upgraded Waterpark Amenities and Updated Waterpark Favorites

In addition to new waterslides, more shade and added play areas, South Bay Shores will bring dramatic enhancements all throughout our guest-favorite waterpark. We’re building a new locker area, new changing rooms and new premium cabanas.

All existing attractions are getting fresh names, added landscaping and even more theming detail—plus bright paintjobs! Guests’ old favorites, like the wave pool and speed slides, will look brand new in 2021.

New Eats, New Treats

South Bay Shores' Pier 76 Construction Update

Our guests are going to absolutely love the new Pier 76 Cafe—which looks totally awesome, if I do say so myself. This new food location will cook up a delicious combination of coastal favs and perennial park favs, like fried shrimp and fish tacos, chicken tenders and waffle fries. We’ll check out the other new food and drink location, Sand Bar, soon!

Just the Beginning

There’s so much happening at South Bay Shores between now and summer 2021. Our talented team of designers is busy developing on-point signs and backstories for attractions. Electricians are working to wire up the new slides’ computer systems. Construction crews are powering through slide installation and interior building work. And landscapers are installing detailed thematic elements all around.

The waves of transformation are just starting. Stay tuned for tons of fun construction updates and behind-the-scenes looks at how we’re bringing our new waterpark to life. Let us know what you think of the progress so far in the comments below!

Stay safe, Bay Area. We miss you, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to Great America—and South Bay Shores—next summer!
