Holiday Weekend South Bay Staycation

Danny Messinger

As area manager of digital marketing, I get to tell the incredible stories of our park to the world—and take our biggest fans Between the Lines. I’ve been an incurable amusement park fanatic since I was a kid and have worked at two other parks (shout-out to Cedar Point and Valleyfair!). Now, I can’t wait to share my passion with our readers! It’s that time of year again—the time when summer officially kicks off all across the Bay Area. School is wrapping up for the kids, and the mercury is starting to rise in South Bay thermometers. Our fans know what that means… It’s Memorial Day weekend!

If your family is looking for something fun to do this weekend that won’t require a long drive or break the bank, California’s Great America has a plethora of fun activities happening right in the San Jose area this weekend. A Great America “staycation” is the perfect way to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday. Here’s what we have planned for this upcoming weekend:

Fabulous Fireworks

Great America is going to light up the night skies with a spectacular fireworks display to commemorate the Memorial Day holiday. On Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 9:45 p.m., join us for a patriotic fireworks display in the Orleans Place section of the park.

Free Military Admission

Active and retired military members will get free park admission from Saturday, May 25 to Monday, May 27, 2019—all three days of the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Just show valid military ID at the ticket booths to take part in this fantastic Great America discount. Additionally, military members can also purchase up to six tickets for family and friends for just $24 each.

Boomerang Bay Waterpark

Nothing says summer quite like the twists and turns of a water slide! On Saturday, May 25, Boomerang Bay waterpark opens for the first time this year. Best of all? Boomerang Bay is included in park admission, and is located right inside Great America! Bring your towel, swimsuit and sunscreen and get ready for splashes, smiles and sun.

Season Passholder Early Ride Time

Season Passholders get extra time on some of our most popular rides this Saturday! Grab your Gold Pass and head to the park one hour early on Saturday, May 25, 2019 for early ride time on Flight Deck, Carousel Columbia and more.

Daily Operation Starts

Now that summer is here, Great America is open every day of the week! Check our online operating calendar for up-to-date days and hours of operation.

Don’t forget that a Season Pass is the best value for fun all year long, allowing you to come and go as many times as you want for less. A Gold Season Pass pays for itself in under two visits! If you don’t have your Season Pass yet, hurry! Our offer expires May 27, 2019.
